In this unique metalworking maker experience, artist-instructor, Derrick Monk, will lead you to carve a simple piece of styrofoam into a piece that you will then turn into a lost-material mold for casting in aluminum. You will leave with the finished aluminum piece of your own creation!
Appropriate attire: Shirt of natural fibers, jeans, and shoes that completely cover feet. Safety gear will be supplied.
Also, don't forget you're playing with fire, so depending on the time of day and season, a hat, sunscreen and bottle of water could be useful.
Instructor Bio: Derrick Monk (aka VisualOriginal), local artist and sculptor, learned computer graphics, sculpture, painting, illustration, photography while studying Arts at Winston-Salem State University. Derrick loves being a creative force and producing original art through various mediums. While well versed in the Arts, when a project that arise out of the ashes of industry, Derrick steps in and manifest the creative output due to Monk's experience and education.
Recently, Derrick Monk was part of a team of artists that restored the Memory Wall of Peace and Love located in downtown W-S (Winston-Salem Journal, July 26, 2021).
Workshops must meet a minimum number of registrations. Mixxer may cancel workshop 48 hours prior to start time, if minimum is not met. Should you need to cancel your registration, 48 hours notice is required to request a cancellation, refund or credit to future workshop date.
