At Ravens Keep Forge, Sam salvages for the steel/metal/copper and then reforms it in their very primitive forge. This forge uses no coal, only homemade charcoal. While the process may take longer, the energy input into reusing world's valuable resources is more than worth it. Check out all the magic that Ravens Keep Forge offers! • INSTRUCTOR: Lara Crews, Seamstress at the Circ Desk

In this maker experience, you will choose and take fabric to create your own tote bag.  You will gain or improve your sewing machine skills with Lara of Seamstress at the Circ Desk!

Using recovered denim and upholstery from local markets, participants will get to choose their fabric combos and make a very handy tote for yourself or a friend!

You will make a 14-in x 22-in x 6-in tote, which  large enough to carry a laptop and other items, or a picnic blanket to your favorite spot for a getaway. Or, Lara's favorite, a great tote to take to the library to get all the books on things you'd like to learn about!

Sewing machines and other sewing accessories will also be provided.

Lara Crews is the owner and founder of Steamstress at the Circ Desk, LLC. Having spent just over a decade as a children’s librarian in both public and school libraries, Lara learned that the maker side of libraries was her favorite part! Lara learned to sew after becoming a librarian to make her own costumes for storytime - and ended up making stuffed animals for props, totes for books and iPads, and quilts! Taking her love of stories and sewing, Lara wanted to work with the community to take that spark of an idea and turn it into a reality. When Lara is not sewing, she is fluffing a quilt for her elderly cat to lay on or making her own spin on healthy cooking as a culinary school drop-out turned librarian! You can find Lara on IG: @Seamstressatthecircdesk.

Have you wanted to try leather working but didn't know where to start? This class is an introduction to the basics of leatherworking, designed to give you a feel for the craft and an idea of what tools and skills you'll need to continue your experience.

In this maker experience we will be making small belt pouches from “veg-tanned” leather (similar to, but thinner than saddle leather) using basic hand tools. Skills will cover: cutting leather from a pattern, hole punching, rivet setting, hand sewing, dyeing, finishing edges, and hand tooling designs. Multiple pouch patterns are available to choose from and pouch size may vary from 5" to 7". These make great gifts for loved ones or for yourself.

You have the option to bring your own decorative button as a closure for your pouch (approximately 1") but we'll supply the rest.

This is a great making experience if you're starting out or curious about leatherworking.

We will supply you with hand tools, accessories, and leather! Just bring yourself, curiosity and creativity!
