Build your very own bat box! Aside from eating over 1,000 mosquito-sized insects in one night, bats are also very important pollinators! This is not just a great project to learn some basic woodworking, but can also be a great way to invite bats to help out your local natural ecosystem. Finished bat box will measure approximately 30" tall, 6" deep and 8" wide.

Tools to be used include:

* Chopsaw

* Table Saw

* Drill

* Jigsaw

All materials, machines, safety gear will be supplied and included.

**The box should be installed about 12ft off the ground and not above windows or doors (or anywhere you don't want bat poop falling). Also do not install too close to trees that will shade out the box.**

Originally hailing from Houston, José moved away after high school to pursue a degree in outdoor education from Warren Wilson College. Through his experience working in the outdoor industry as a climbing and high ropes course instructor, camp counselor and multi-day expedition leader, José gained the necessary skills to help teach and guide others in overcoming fears and accomplishing personal goals in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and beyond. His time spent in the backwoods, gave José a deeper appreciation for the forests he considered his playground and began thinking about its use and functions in a different way. His curiosity got the better of him, which eventually led him to receive a second degree in carpentry from the American College of the Building Arts, located in Charleston, SC. There he studied in-depth the science, history, and math, to name a few, behind what it means to construct and live in sustainable built environments. With a combined passion of exploring the outdoors and his hands on building experience, José has found a love and calling for teaching others how to create. Through the use of a natural material like wood and limited only in imagination, José strives to educate others how to pursue their own creative endeavors. Whether it be a birdbox, a small jewelry case or something entirely new, the power of creativity allows us to explore what we previously thought possible and gives us an excuse to meander at our own creative pace.
