Intro to Arduino (Private Workshop)

  • Thu, February 24, 2022
  • 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
  • MIXXER | Computer Lab. 1375 North Martin Luther King Jr. Dr., Winston-Salem, NC 27101

**This Introduction to Arduino maker experience is a private workshop for The Science of Winston-Salem. Please email workshops@wsmixxer.org to inquire about private maker experiences for your organization!**

  • STUDIO: Flexspace
  • LEVEL: Beginner
  • INSTRUCTOR: Randy Boyles

Delve into the magical world of microcontrollers, tiny computers that drive automation in the world around us. We find them in timers, thermostats, toys, microwaves, electric toothbrushes, automobiles, and the exciting new sensors and actuators that make up the Internet of Things. The Arduino microcontroller and its development environment make it easy for you to put together electronic circuits and program the Arduino itself without having an extensive background in electronics, engineering, or computer programming.

In this maker experience, participants will be using their own laptops and Arduino Sensor Kits provided by the organization and will get:

  • An overview of the Arduino and key components
  • An introduction to electronics
  • An introduction to programming the Arduino.

This is a private workshop, but be on the look out for more Maker Experiences like these!

INSTRUCTOR BIO: Randy has had an eclectic career that includes a degree in Zoology, a Masters in Speech Communication and over 40 years of software development and management. In 2013, chancing upon a Popular Science magazine article describing the Arduino microcontroller and the maker movement, he saw a new opportunity for creativity. He immediately acquired an Arduino and set off to learn more about it and about electronics in general. Many microcontroller projects later, he is ready to share his knowledge and experience with others.

Randy is an experienced speaker and presenter. His current projects involve the Internet of Things, especially low energy Bluetooth (BLE) communication and employing microcontrollers with his other hobby, 3D design and printing.

Mixxer requires makers under the age of 16 years old be accompanied by a parent/guardian. If you have any questions, please email workshops@wsmixxer.org.

Workshops must meet a minimum number of registrations.  Mixxer may cancel workshop 48 hours prior to start time, if minimum is not met. Should you need to cancel your registration, 48 hours notice is required to request a cancellation, refund or credit to future workshop date.
