This is an introductory experience into making (forging or smithing) metal jewelry.
You'll go home with 2 completed hand hammered copper cuff bracelets and an introduction to working with copper using tools and fire.
We will discuss working with copper, learn and practice using Butane and Propane torches to anneal your copper, hammers to texturize them and smooth the edges to finish them for ultimate comfort so that they are ready to wear or gift!
Attendees will take home their bracelets along with some facts, info and care sheets on working with and caring for copper jewelry as well as a list of resources should they want to continue their practice at home or at Mixxer.
IMPORTANT: Be sure to wear natural materials (no spandex, nylon, etc.) and long pants that cover your boots or close toed shoes. We'll provide the rest of the safety gear you'll need.
Elaine joined the Mixxer staff in the summer of 2019 when she moved to the area from the Massachusetts. She couldn't be happier to have found a home in both the Triad and Mixxer's Community Makerspace! With a creative background in design & dance, she feels like she's found "her people" by moving to North Carolina and becoming a part of Mixxer's community. Her superpower is identifying and celebrating in people's talents and strengths.
This class is for makers 16 years old and older!
Mixxer may cancel workshop 48 hours prior to start time, if minimum is not met. Should you need to cancel your registration, 48 hours notice is required to request a cancellation, refund or credit to future workshop date.
