Make an inviting new home and feeder for blue birds to put in your own backyard! During this class you'll assemble, sand, and paint a perfect blue bird house and a blue bird feeder that will protect and nurture these beautiful creatures.
These houses and feeders are designed in accordance with North American Bluebird Society guidelines with safe guards to protect against rain, predators, and competing species. The paint colors of the house provided will be light, dull colors also in accordance with these guidelines as well. Paint for the feeder will also be provided by with less restrictions on the color. Hang your house on a post or on the side of a tree/fence with additional supports at least 6 feet above the ground.
Please wear long pants and closed toed shoes. You will be painting so bring clothes you don't mind getting paint on.
Gray Comer was a triple major in biology, chemistry and physics at Appalachian State. After college he went on to teach 7 & 8 grades for 5 years, was an Assistant Fire Marshall for 7 years and spent 26 years running his own business. Gray is also a proud Army Veteran. Now retired, Gray has dabbled around in wood working over the years and enjoys birdwatching. His first offering at Mixxer will combine these hobbies with a specialty blue bird house, designed to protect the blue birds from dangerous wrens and sparrows.
